COMPANY: Community

BioTeam believes in contributing to the communities in which we work and the communities in which we live. From open source development to the elementary school "show and tell" circuit, we're committed to supporting the advancement of technology. Here are a few of our initiatives:

  • BioTeam founder Chris Dagdigian is the main administrator and a board member of the not-for-profit Open Bioinformatics Foundation, which supports projects including BioPerl, BioJava, BioMOBY and BioPython. Through BioTeam, Chris donates his time as a systems and network administrator.

  • BioTeam employee Brian Osborne is a long-time core contributor to the open source community, including code and documentation in the Bioperl bioinformatics toolkit and the Generic Model Organism Database (GMOD).

  • BioTeam has donated the servers currently used to host all of the open-bio.org sites and continues to pay for upgrades and expansion.

  • BioTeam also donates all colocation, bandwidth and hosting costs for all of the open-bio.org sites and services

  • BioTeam donates all of the hosting and bandwidth costs for the EMBOSS download site ftp://emboss.open-bio.org

  • BioTeam donates the server, administration and hosting costs associated with the gridengine.info blog and community wiki. BioTeam also donates the cost of hosting the SGE videos at screencast.com

  • BioTeam provides free access to SGEqstat , a Mac OS X Dashboard Widget displaying cluster load, free job slots, and job counters (running, pending, and finished) indicated through an automobile dashboard metaphor.

  • BioTeam provides free access to xml-qstat, a web based monitoring package for Grid Engine clusters

  • After noticing that grid related domain names were being snapped up by domain speculators, BioTeam purchased "gridengine.org" so that web requests could be redirected to the official Grid Engine project site.
